Burn
Get help quickly
This is probably a second-degree burn. See a doctor or the out-of-hours GP service. Cool the burn with lukewarm water and cover it; never burst the blisters, as they protect against infection.
Do this
• Cool the burn under lukewarm running water for 20 minutes
• Do not burst the blisters
• Cover with a sterile non-stick dressing
• See your GP or the out-of-hours GP service
• Take painkillers such as paracetamol if needed
Warning signs
• Blisters on the face, hands, feet or genitals
• Blisters more than 2 cm across
• A blister has already burst and the wound is open
• The casualty is a child under 5
