Consider getting help
Rainwater from a clean surface is relatively safe but may contain fine particles or air pollution. Filter and boil the water before drinking it, to minimise microbiological and chemical risks.
Do this
• Filter the rainwater through a clean cloth or fine filter
• Boil the water for at least 1 minute before drinking
• Let it cool in a clean sealed container
• Preferably use it only when no tap water is available
• Look for a more reliable safe water source
Warning signs
• Rain falling in an industrial area or after a volcanic eruption
• The water has an unpleasant smell or colour
• The collecting surface was recently treated with paint or chemicals
