Regarding pathos - Start with the audience's mood. If it's not conducive to the argument, there are ways to change or otherwise exploit it for a desired outcome.
Over-sympathizing is one example. Sincerely over-sympathize to reel in the audience if they're angry due to unmet expectations so that they feel their anger is overblown.
