no one is rational
From Greene, Chapter 1, p28:
│ Like everyone, you think you are rational, but you are not. Rationality is
│ not a power you are born with but one you acquire through training and
│ practice.
There are several tightly coupled points here:
1 - everyone thinks they are rational 2 - no one really is without practice
Okay, so that's two points, the other is a comment: No one is rational, not even you, you just think you are, but it's okay because everyone else thinks they are too.
Except I'm pretty sure I'm not rational and I don't think true rationality is attainable, it's just something to shoot for but in the end, we just rationalize our emotional choices and feel better about them because they appear logical. I look forward to seeing if the author makes any comments on this topic.
