Welcome to the Sunspot

I'm a serial hobbyist with passable skills in electrical engineering, programming, and radio engineering. Most of my blogs will probably be technical in nature, but don't expect me to be right all of the time!
In fact, I'm usually wrong...

This page will be up and down as I fix bugs and add features; please don't expect the comments to be permanent, as I'll likely be changing the database methods. Ideally I will be able to figure out a user management system before too long, but for now this is just a personal blog.

On my list of things I expected to be doing in 2026, this was certainly not at the top, but here we are. Nomadnet and Reticulum are more than a hobby for me at this point; with the state of the west a...

Contact & Interface

Notes on this interface:
I have set fairly aggressive timeout and rate-limiting rules for node announces; if you just want a zero-effort interface to connect your RPi Zero to that won't overwhelm its crypto bandwidth, this should work for you.
The aggressive rate-limiting has a side-effect: you'll see lots of nodes you've never seen before, since there are so many nodes that seem to abuse the announce mechanism. This is a good way to find new nomadnet pages, ofc.
Caveat: If you need to hear *legitimate* traffic that will announce often (i.e. a mobile node that is driving past various RNode endpoints, therefore changing its optimal Path), this interface (if used by itself) might break things for you.
