Radio and Communications
Radio is important for emergency preparedness because it provides reliable communication when cell phones, the internet, and power may fail. It allows responders and the public to share information, receive emergency alerts, and coordinate during disasters when other communication systems are unavailable. Services such as NOAA Weather Radio (NWR), FRS, GMRS, LoRa, and amateur (Ham) radio are all valuable tools that we should consider taking advantage of.
NOAA radio frequencies
NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards (NWR) is a nationwide network of radio stations broadcasting continuous weather information directly from the nearest National Weather Service office. NWR broadcasts official Weather Service warnings, watches, forecasts and other hazard information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
