If there's one thing which makes me feel "The Ungst of Man under Late Capitalism" it's having to deal with maintaining nodejs web apps. Full disclosure, I have never actually written anything in nodejs, but from an outsider perspective its ecosystem seems like a train wreck constantly on fire. It suffers from frequent breakage and ridiculously granular dependencies, and this sort of fragility is not something that I want to be dealing with going forward.

It's for this reason, dear readers, that I'm going to deprecate Cryptpad and Etherpad on LibreServer. Having to deal with nodejs version issues within Debian is just something that I no longer particularly want to be doing or have time for. Cryptpad and Etherpad are decent web apps, but all engineering is about tradeoffs in relation to the overall goal of having a stable and reliable system.

Cryptpad started out as something like an encrypted version of Etherpad. But over the years it turned into a kitchen sink of all sorts of things. It's this kitchen sink approach which I want to be getting away from, and to be taking the Unix approach of having dedicated tools performing narrowly scoped functions. NextCloud went a similar way, but for now I'm keeping it. Maybe there is some terminology for dedicated tools which turn into a zoo, but if there is I'm unaware of it. Scope bloat?
