Steen Steensen Blicher

Steen Steensen Blicher was a Danish writer and poet born in 1782 in Vium. He was the son of a parson distantly related to Martin Luther, and grew up in close contact with nature and peasant life in the moor areas of central Jutland. He is best known as the pioneer of the short story in Danish literature, writing about tragic and melancholic human fates in his home land of Jutland. He is also noted as one of the first novelists to make use of the 'unrealiable narrator' as a theme. He is still widely read in his home country of Denmark. Blicher died in 1848.
