Mangeclous — a pinnacle of contemporary literature. Mangeclous: a book brimming with triumphant verve, a book of extraordinary freedom (in an era of constrained writing), a rich book (in an era of impoverished writing), a robust, full-blooded book (in an era of lean, spare writing)—in short, a great book. To my mind, Mangeclous stands as a virtually unique example in contemporary literature of a comic epic—that is, of comedy on a grand scale. An epic, and yet one cannot help but roar with laughter.
