Wladyslaw Reymont
Władysław Stanisław Reymont (1867–1925) was a Polish novelist whose richly detailed portrayals of rural life and social change established him as one of Poland's greatest literary figures. After working as a railway employee and actor, he devoted himself to writing, achieving international acclaim with The Peasants, a four-volume epic depicting the rhythms, traditions, and conflicts of village life across the seasons. His other major works include The Promised Land, a powerful novel about industrialization in Łódź, and The Vampyre. Reymont was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1924, chiefly in recognition of The Peasants, which remains a landmark of European realist fiction.
