Left 4 Dead 2
Left 4 Dead 2 is a 4 player cooperative zombie game and it is yet another masterpiece created by Valve. Just like Team Fortress 2, the game is insanely fun and has memorable and funny characters. There are multiple campaigns to complete, in which the survivors attempt to survive through hordes of zombies to get rescued at the end. It has split-screen support making it a good way to burn time on the Xbox 360 with your friends.

It includes all the content from Left 4 Dead 1 and released only a year after, pissing off the playerbase. It is less gritty than L4D1 with bright colors on both the survivors and maps and has some amazing level design. Infact, the levels get changed by a form of AI called the Director. Pathways, locations of items, spawnage of different weapons and the spawn rates of zombies, will all be different depending on luck or how well you are you are doing against the horde.

There are a lot of different gamemodes like Survival, where you try to survive against an endless horde of zombies or Versus, where it's a match between the survivor team and special infected team. Mutation also exist to change up the experience with mutators like Tank Run, where only Tanks can spawn at a more frequent rate.

Teamwork is a massive part of Left 4 Dead 2 as you will get incapacitated or require healing from the other survivors. Some hordes are even too much to deal with alone, just like that one super annoying rush on Dark Carnival... You even require everyone to be in the safe room at the end of the level in order to progress to the next one.

Survivors

The dialog and relationships of the survivors are one entertaining slice of L4D2. There are some really funny voice lines from all the survivors and their personalities really shine.

Ellis

๐ŸŽž๏ธ Ellis stories about Keith by Lemurfot

Ellis is a funny mechanic and has a crush on the L4D1 character Zoey. He is also a big fan of Jimmy Gibs Jr. the racer and the band Midnight Riders, along with Coach. He has a lot of insane stories about his buddy Keith and likes to talk a lot, much to the dismay of the other survivors. He also loves horses.

I think that Ellis is the most fun character in L4D2. The game wouldn't just be the same without him as he serves as comic relief in this apocalyptic world.

My favorite voiceline from Ellis is:

This is just like Team Fortress 2!

Coach

Coach is a more serious but still fun character. He has a lot of the same interests as Ellis. His most famous voice line is:

One man cheeseburger apocalypse!

Rochelle

๐ŸŽž๏ธ 10 Ways Rochelle Can die... by Mikidy

Rochelle is a pretty simple character. She occasionally cracks a joke or two and tells off Ellis when he starts getting distracted by a story about Keith or Nick if he's being an asshole like usual. She is also the laughing stock of the L4D2 playerbase, as can be seen in GMod animations.

Nick

Nick is a serious and straightforward gambler from the city. He is an asshole a lot of the time and sarcasm is just part of his personality. He never attempts to sugar coat things and just say how things really are.

Left 4 Dead 1 Survivors

Bill

Bill is an old Military veteran who is pretty serious. He was sacrificed at the final campaign to let the others survive.

Louis

๐ŸŽž๏ธ Louis Meets Louis by Raikujo

Louis is an office worker who loves pills. He has an upbeat and fun attitude and likes to make jokes. He interned in Japan for a few years and can speak a bit of Japanese. In order to prove this to Francis he said:

ใƒ“ใƒซใ•ใ‚“ใฏใฐใ‹ใงใ™ (Bill is an idiot)

Zoey

Zoey is also serious but also the prettiest survivor in the game. She is crushed on by Ellis and many ship her with Ellis too.

Francis

Francis is an asshole who is sarcastic, much like Nick, and hates everything. If it exists, he hates it. He seems to be a biker, which is quite fitting for his personality.

Campaigns

Each campaign has 4-6 levels, which consists of a starting point at the first level and a rescue at the final level. Each level has a safe house at the beginning, or starting point if you're at the first level, and a safe house at the end, where you will start at in the next level.

At some points in a level, you may have to go through a rush, where you alert a horde due to causing a loud noise (like generators) in order to progress to the next area. Also, in rescue levels, you have to constantly fight against a horde of zombies for around 5 - 10 minutes until someone comes to save you, or you power up a vehicle that allows you to escape.

My favorite campaign in general is The Parish because of its bright and colorful atmosphere. I think that No Mercy has the best rescue level, the map is really fun to move around in and even getting smokered is fun since it moves you to a different part of the map.

The loading screens of each campaign contain movie posters. It makes you feel immersed and the posters are amazing. The art fits the game really well.

Safe Rooms

Safe rooms are the comfiest places in the game. The only place where you are 100% safe from anything (except Ellis' ramblings). They all contain messages left behind by past survivors, posters and bulletin boards and finally, the most important object in the game, a toilet.

More useful stuff contained in safe rooms are health kits, ammo, different weapons, occasionally molotovs and pipebombs and also pills.

I could spend hours in the safe room just messing around, especially with the dialog between characters. It's a shame that there isn't any minigames like there are in the game A Way Out. Playing card games with the survivors could've been an entertaining experience. I think more games should incorporate safe rooms between stages as a way to just relax after fighting a massive horde.

Special Infected

Throughout the game you will encounter zombies with some mutations, causing them to have some sort of a special ability. These are called Special Infected and they spawn every so often.

Charger

The Charger does what his name suggests - he charges into you. His right arm is bigger than his tiny left arm and many scholars have explained that this is due to the Charger being a chronic masturbator. He can be killed very fast with a melee weapon.

Spitter

The Spitter is a disgusting, flabby female zombie who vomits toxic goo at your face. When combined with other special infected like the Hunter or the Jockey, she can be a deadly force.

Jockey

The most annoying thing that exists in the game. He is incredibly small, makes me think that the original person was a baby or toddler. Also has an abnormally high amount of health for his size. He rides on you and takes away your control from your survivor until he is dead or you get incapacitated.

Hunter

The Hunter thinks he's from Assassin's Creed and pounces onto your ass from a long distance. It stays on you until you die.

Smoker

This pervert uses its long tongue to grab onto your neck and makes you choke to death. As suggested by the name, he is a chronic smoker, which is probably how he died in the first place.

Witch

The Witch is a lethal zombie that seems to be crying all the time. She one shots you and kills you very fast if you alert her so don't get close! You can one shot her with a shotgun if you aim at her nape. Fire and explosives also make her slower.

Tank

The final boss of all special infected. He is the strongest and causes the most damage to the survivors. He is always at the final level of each campaign and sometimes randomly appears on levels before. Just like the Witch, fire and explosives make it slower.

Weapons

There are a ton of different weapons in Left 4 Dead 2. For your primary slot there are:

- Rifles
- Shotguns
- Sniper rifles
- Machine guns

For the secondary slot there are:

- Pistols
- Swords
- Axes
- Crowbars
- Batons
- Gnome (it heals you)

My favorite weapon is the AK47. There are also incendiary and explosive ammo available if you are lucky enough to find it.
