A driver traveling the wrong way on Park Avenue in the Bronx struck and killed a man early Monday morning and left the scene, police said.

The crash happened around 6 a.m. near East Tremont Avenue, where a white vehicle was heading north in the southbound lanes of Park Avenue, according to the NYPD. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Firefighters and EMS crews were called to the intersection for a report of a pedestrian struck, according to the FDNY. Medics pronounced the man dead and turned the scene over to police.

Police have not released the man's name, pending family notification, and have not given his age.

No arrests have been made. Authorities have not described the vehicle beyond its color, or said whether any surveillance cameras captured the crash.

The NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad is investigating. The fatal hit-and-run comes just days after Mayor Zohran Mamdani's administration pledged to crack down on reckless driving.

So far this year 52 pedestrians and 15 cyclists have been killed in traffic crashes, according to city data.
