MeshCore as a Reticulum Interface

What it is

A Reticulum interface that carries Reticulum traffic over MeshCore radios, letting a MeshCore mesh act as a bearer for Reticulum in the same way LoRa, packet radio or TCP already do.

This is a Reticulum project, not a MeshCore one: the point is to give Reticulum another physical layer to run on, particularly where MeshCore hardware is already deployed and Reticulum coverage is not.

Status

Idea — as of 9 September 2026. Not yet specified in detail.

Write up the approach: which MeshCore API the interface would sit on, what the framing and MTU constraints look like, and whether it is viable within the duty cycle.

Open questions

• Which MeshCore surface does the interface attach to — the companion API, or something lower?
• What usable MTU and throughput remain after MeshCore’s own framing?
• Does the airtime budget leave room for Reticulum to be useful, or only for very low-rate traffic?
