Creative Evolution


In Creative Evolution, Bergson challenges the prevailing mechanistic and deterministic theories of evolution. While accepting biological evolution as a fact, he argues that life cannot be fully explained by physics, chemistry, or natural selection alone. He proposes that evolution is driven by an élan vital ("vital impetus"), a creative life force that propels living beings toward novelty, diversity, and increasingly complex forms.
