Logic of Empire
During an argument about the treatment of workers on Venus, wealthy lawyer Humphrey Wingate insists that no one could truly be forced into slavery under such a system. A drunken wager soon sends him to Venus, where debt, contracts, and economic necessity trap him in the very conditions he had dismissed from the comfort of Earth. Forced to experience exploitation firsthand, Wingate discovers how easily freedom can disappear without anyone openly calling it slavery.
